The Pine Island community stands ready to assist existing and new businesses either expand their operation or locate new facilities in town.

Our economy here is rooted in agriculture, and has in the past few years sprouted new business in all sectors.

Thanks to a state of the art digital communication network, forward thinking community leaders, and an aggressive approach to attracting business investment, we have seen Pine Island grow from having one single family housing development in the early 1990's to having over nine today.

We have seen business growth from within our community comprising over 90% of all business expansions in the last ten yeras. Stamps By Judith is a prime example of a vibrant local business that grew out of Larry's and Judith's garage in the mid 1990's.

The local Farm Country Coop (the Farmers Elevator) also expanded into other non ag businesses by buying and expanding the local gas station on North Main.

All that was to happen anyway, except that our information age based businesses would not have located here if it was not for the investemnets made by the Pine Island Telephone Company in communication infrastructure. High speed internet access, VPN's, and the freedom to live in a "rural" setting yet, prosper, create good paying jobs, and maintain a quality lifestyle, had helped us attract many new businesses. Help Systems, Inc. is a good example of a Metro Twin Cities company that decided to locate on Main Street (in an old Tavern) because on available communication technology, educated/qualifid labor force, and the very low cost of doing business..

The EDA Board and staff are working to secure industrial/commercial land along U.S. 52 to take advantage of future Highway plans and position the community to continue grwing its tax base. The EDA is also working to attarct new businesses and jobs, while at the same time following the Community Vision identified in the City's Future Land Use Plan (See link below for a full copy of the plan).
