Bridge Replacement--Goodhue County has awarded the project to Minnowa Construction (Harmony, MN). Crews will begin demolition of the existing bridge on June 4th. Construction of the proposed Main Street Bridge will last through the summer and is expected to be completed by August 24th. Once completed there will be a 10’ wide sidewalk and decorative railings on each side of the new bridge. In addition, the driving surface of the new bridge will be 17’ wider than that of the existing bridge.
Street and Utility Reconstruction--Arcon Construction will also begin their operations on June 4th. The project will be completed in 4 separate phases to help minimize the disturbance to the downtown businesses. A project schedule drawing showing what areas of Main Street will be affected with approximate durations of such activities has been completed and is on display at City Hall and various businesses. To allow access to business storefronts, sidewalks adjacent to the buildings will be left in place until replacement efforts commence. Main Street parking will be available in the lots in back of City Hall, across from City Hall, and across from the schools west entrance (please see the website for a drawing of available parking lots during construction). Portions of Main Street will also be available for parking when crews are not working in that particular area. Please follow the project signs and drive with caution when driving through the project area. The substantial completion date for the street and utility work is September 30th.
Main Street Detour--The Main Street detour will be placed on 1st Avenue SE from 5th Street SE to CSAH 11. The detour will be in service from June 4th through October 1st. Due to the close proximity of the detour to the school please be alert and drive carefully through the detour.
Below you will find the 2007 Main Street Project Portfolio and and some additional maps. These maps show the rerouted trafftic flow over the temporary bridge and designated parking.
