Recreation

There are many recreational opportunities in and around Pine Island. Passive as well as active types of recreation venues are available:

Borrow a Bike

Pine Island's innovative Bike program is open for residents and visitors Saturdays and Sundays from 10 a.m.-6 p.m., weather. Bikes of all sizes are available for FREE. Children may borrow bikes with the signed authorization of a parent or guardian. Individual cyclists 18 or older simply register to check out bikes. The program currently has more than 50 bikes in active inventory and is located in an old Butter Factory at the Douglas Trail Park.

Island Riders Saddle Club

Our group formed in 1960 to provide area horse owners to meet and participate in a variety of horse-related activities while making new friends.  The club is involved in horse shows, fun days, trail rides, parades, ect.  These activities provide much enjoyment for all involved.  The club owns three acres of land (“the grounds”), which sport an announcer’s stand, pavilion, open space for camping and socializing and two outhouses.  Thanks to the generosity of local landowners, the club has permission to ride many beautiful trails. You can visit our website or email us at pisaddleclub@aol.com.

The Pine Island Pioneers

The Pioneers compete in the Twin Rivers League, Root Division, a Class C league sanctioned by the Minnesota Amateur Baseball Association. The team will begin its 15th season in the summer of 2010. Home games are played at the Pine Island High School baseball field and most start at 2:00 pm. You can also visit our website.

Swimming Pool

Pine Island has an outdoor swimming pool with an adjacent wading pool. The main swimming pool has 2 diving boards, is heated, and has depths of between 3 and 10 feet. Swimming lessons and water aerobics are offered, and you can register for private pool parties as well. The pool is open from June until August.

The pool is also adjacent to a jogging track and tennis court, both of which are always open.
